For those with a botanical interest, there are several areas in the national park that can attract. An example is the Björnekulla marsh in Andersberg, where you can see both orchids and other flowers.

Orchids at the Björnekulla marsh
The Björnekulla marsh is one of the few rich marshes in the Småland highlands. Here you can enjoy, among other things, beautiful orchids. In early summer there are plenty of meadowsweets here, and around midsummer the slightly more unusual marsh sedge begins to flower. Remember that all Swedish orchids are protected.

Directions to Björnekullamarret
You can drive here and park at the Andersberg car park in the national park’s southern ”corner”. From there it is a short walk of a few hundred meters out to the marsh. An alternative if you want to experience more of the bog is to start from Lövö hostel instead. Then you get 7 km of hiking, mostly on foot over the bog, and the trail is well marked.

The place is good for a picnic, so bring the coffee basket.
Flowers at Blådöpet
From Lövö hostel starts a circular loop of approximately 5 km called Blådöpet runt. It passes the watercourse Blådöpet, which cuts right through the national park.

Here you can see, among other things, flowers such as water clover (spring), bell heather, marsh lily, crow’s clover, mistletoe and yellow and white water lily (summer). In addition, water sedge, marsh sedge and milk thistle grow here, as well as dwarf birch and porcini.

Flowers at Stora Gungflyet
At Stora Gungflyet next to Stora Kävsjön you will find similar flowers and plants as at Blådöpet (see description above).

Keep your eyes open
As the trails go through exciting plant environments, there is a chance to see beautiful flowers everywhere. One of our small carnivorous plants, for example, grows in many places along the escarpment that crosses the bog – sileshair. The species you can find at Store Mosse are large sedges and small sedges. So keep your eyes open – and your camera ready.
